As a touring DJ out of LA, I spend a massive amount of my life inside record stores across the country. I've been to the ultra-corporate spots and the hyper-pretentious hipster warehouses, but FM Music in North Kansas City is exactly what a real, soulful community record shop is supposed to be.

Lots of great gems to find here! Great prices. The owner Faron was friendly and helpful. He put me onto a Kansas band called “The Rainmakers”! 11/10 this place is awesome.

Had a local buddy bring me to this shop while I was home visiting family. This shop was the highlight of the day. Tons of records, great layout, and awesome owner! My only regret is not grabbing a few of the harder to find records he had.

Absolutely charming old school record store unassumingly tucked away in North Kansas City. Small, warm, and chock full of vinyl that has been methodically organized. They have all the classics plus endless deep cuts that will keep you browsing for hours.

I had a great time shopping and visiting and can't wait to go back. From New to Rare he's definitely got something you'd want and a great place to shop for any occasion. Support your local record stores.

Small, warm and full of it

Inside FM Music: crates on the counter labelled Punk/Garage, Rap and Reggae, wall rails of displayed sleeves, and shelves of music books and candles.
A shelf of jazz records including Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, Charles Mingus and Sun Ra, with Japanese pressings and framed album art above.
The FM Music storefront with its hanging record-shaped Record Shop sign, the window roundel, and an A-frame reading New and Used Records, We Also Buy.
The shop front from the sidewalk: the window roundel, a neon open sign and a bistro table under a yellow umbrella.
